He was so damn cute! I hated his song Beautiful Soul, despite how popular it was. But I did find him so cute and liked his follow up single “She’s No You”, which had a better sound for my ears.
Jesse was what Aaron Carter thinks he was in the early 00s.

PS I love his song Leavin

I had a huge crush on him when Summerland came out. I was so jealous when he started dating Katie Cassidy 😄

He was a hot pretty boy for like a few years. He was signed the worst record label in history, the Disney-owned Hollywood Records. "Beautiful Soul" was a pretty good song. He tried to appeal to an older audience with "Leavin'" but nobody bought it. He aged like milk like most pretty blondes do after they hit their 20s. His Summerland costar Zac Efron ended up with the bigger career ironically. Jesse and Aaron Carter do look a lot alike and are the same age. I did misatke them for each other.

LOL true. It was Aaron Carter who beget Jesse McCartney who beget Justin Bieber who beget Shawn Mendes. All of them are marginally talented. Jesse was a nice guy who probably got the shortest end of the stick because he got trapped in the Disney bubble like Hilary, Raven and Aly & AJ, so less mainstream radio promotion despite MTV overexposure.

Didn't he say something vaguely anti-gay during an interview when he was popular?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 19, 2021 9:20 PM |
Didn't he try songwriting for awhile?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 19, 2021 9:23 PM |
He co-wrote the song "Bleeding Love", which was a big hit for Leona Lewis.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 19, 2021 9:24 PM |
A [italic]huge[/italic] hit, actually.
[quote] Debuting at number one on the UK Singles Chart and the Irish Singles Chart, "Bleeding Love" became the best-selling single of 2007 in both countries.[4] After the single's release, it became a major international hit and was the best-selling single of 2008 worldwide.[5] The single reached number one in 35 countries,[6] including Japan, Germany and the United States, making it only the second song in history to achieve this feat, Elton John's "Candle in the Wind 1997" being the first.

I had no idea who Aly and AJ were until Hellcats. I prefer their newer stuff besides Flattery.

16 Year old me before the Internet age would totally have jerked off to him in Leavin’.

Leavin is his best charting song.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 21, 2021 1:53 PM |
Was anyone else scandalized in Leavin’ when they’re rolling around on the mattress without a mattress protector or sheets, it was supposed to read as porn shoot right? And the start of the song referenced anal sex too.

I remember when he was on All My Children as Adam Chandler's son. He was basically bridged the character from child to teen/adolescent. I think Jonathon Bennet played the character next when the character was aged to later teen/high school. He was not bad as the entitled brat and was given some heavier scenes if I remember correctly. Too bad it was when the show was starting its slow, sad decline.

Anyone remember in the mid/late 90’s the commercial they played at Lowes cinema before the movie that young Jesse was in? He was on a date with a girl and kept trying to act older and asked the concession lady for Senior Mints (instead of junior mints)? Idk why, but that commercial will randomly come to mind. Probably b/c I saw it so many times in a few years. I miss the 90’s.

He was never able to make the jump r9 Because his private life wasn't as controversial. There was no way to win the young adult/college crowd in relatability for him. He was too pure and innocent.

Bleeding Love is a perfect pop song. Perfect lyrics, construction, everything. And also a smash and pleasant to listen too even still. Had no idea he wrote that. Amazing. Even if you don’t like the song it was a game changer. It brought pop back to “clean” pop after it had gotten all funky for a while.

R23 Bleeding Love feels more R&B than pop

I have never in my life seen someone as young as him have such bad crow's feet. And this was a DECADE ago -- when he was only in his mid-20s.

R24 yeah it definitely has an r and b vibe but I don’t remember it being as big on the urban stations. It was a pop hit and ultimately settled in more of an adult contemporary over time.

Wouldn't he be set for life from Bleeding Love royalties? They still play it.

What did Nick Jonas do right that Jesse did wrong? He had the slutty video and R&B-lite lyrics yet it flopped.

Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 34 | January 25, 2022 8:50 PM |
Does Disney still make pop stars? I remember in the 2000s they were trying to make every Disney Channel star a teen pop singer: Hilary Duff, Christy Carlson Romano, Lindsay Lohan, Raven, Corbin Bleu, Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, etc. All of them faded away. For some reason, Miley, Selena, Demi and Zendaya managed to stay relevant.
Jesse McCartney was never a Disney Channel star. He was a kid actor turned boy band member turned teen actor turned teen pop singer.

Yes. Have you heard of Miss Olivia Rodrigo?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 25, 2022 9:03 PM |
Fuck I forgot about Olivia Rodrigo. She seems to be the only one though. I don't listen to her and I learned more about her from the Joshua Bassett threads which made me strongly dislike her as a gay man.
Ariana Grande was Nickelodeon and she has more talent than all of these Disney stars combined. Helps, she was on Broadway first.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 25, 2022 9:06 PM |
I had no idea she'd even played a gay man. Was it a remake of that Amanda Bynes "She's the Man" movie?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 25, 2022 9:10 PM |
We’re the same age. 14 year old me was definitely obsessed with him…also Aaron Carter, Orlando Bloom, Bow Wow, Bill Kaulitz and David Gallagher from 7th Heaven lol. Not sure what’s going on with his brows @ R34 tho. Yikes.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 25, 2022 9:55 PM |
Hotties like David Gallagher (later seasons), Barry Watson, George Stults, Andrew Keegan and Tyler Hoechlin were the only reasons anyone watched that piece of crap show 7th Heaven and why it lasted 11 years. Not because of the Christian values.

R34, on the other hand…
Offsite Linkby Anonymous | reply 43 | January 26, 2022 12:02 AM |
R41 I need help because I acknowledge that 7th Heaven had attractive male actors on it to get teenage girls and gay boys to watch it just like every other poorly written WB show at the time? BTW I was a kid and teenager in the 2000s and the target demo for the network. 7th Heaven was always a retarded ass show and an over-the-top campy exaggeration of Christian homes too that seemed almost like a parody of the GOP. Jessica Biel is why straight boys watched it.

He was actually pretty good when he was on All My Children when he was maybe 12 to 14 playing Adam Chandler Jr. where he could play the relatively sweet boy who was starting to show signs of being a spoiled, manipulative chip off of the old Chandler block. He was kind of a transition of the character being just a prop to sit on his mother's knee to becoming one of the older teen set.

r35 Zendaya could have became the next Rihanna/Tinashe, but she decided to pursue acting. That's not too much of an issue because she's a phenomenal actress, but I would have loved to see her topping your favs.

R40 half of those aren't even main characters. The fact it got 11 seasons was ridiculous.
