Born on July 6, 1945, in Evansville, Indiana, to the revered Marvin and Dorothy (Coke) Schriber, Jack B. Schreiber led a life steeped in service, education, and the arts. He was not only a patriotic American who honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, but also a lifelong learner who pursued his passion for education by acquiring both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Bosse and the University of Evansville (UE).
Jack dedicated his career to the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC), initially as a language arts and communications instructor and subsequently as the Supervisor of Fine Arts. His impact extended beyond the confines of a traditional classroom; he was also an esteemed faculty member at both the University of Southern Indiana (USI) and UE. Known for his civic virtues and unflagging commitment to nurturing the next generation, Jack became a cornerstone in the educational community.
At Central High School, he wore many hats, including that of a speech and language arts teacher, while also supervising theatrical performances and arts events. His tireless efforts in promoting and enriching arts education reached every school in the neighborhood during his tenure as the Supervisor of Fine Arts. Moreover, Jack played a pivotal role in launching the EVSC summer musical program and served as its co-producer for an impressive 25 years.
When he stepped down from his administrative role in 2014, the then-Superintendent Bertram recognized the value of his extensive experience and deep-rooted understanding of Evansville’s social fabric, which connected him to nearly every family in the community. In a unique move, Bertram asked Jack to “unretire” to contribute his talents to the newly formed EVSC Foundation.
