Lucia Jane Graves Winn Death – A compassionate spirit whose legacy extended far beyond her physical presence, Lucia Jane Graves Winn was not only a resident of Laurel, Mississippi, but she was also a neighbor to many. It was at the residence of her son in Jackson, Mississippi, on December 19, 2023, that she passed away, marking the conclusion of a life that exemplified selflessness, faith, and constant dedication.

Laurel, Mississippi is the place where Lucia was born on May 8, 1930. She later married Lewis E. Winn, and the two of them had a companionship that lasted for 56 years until his passing. She poured her heart into church ministries and spent quality time with the elderly after she retired from her position as a licensed practical nurse (LPN). Lucia’s dedication to providing care did not end with her chosen profession.

Through her involvement in Highland Baptist, West Laurel Baptist, and later Grace Baptist in Jackson, where her son served as a pastor, her unwavering faith served as a clear demonstration of her commitment to the Christian faith. Her life was a demonstration of indomitable spirit and unwavering devotion, particularly during the eight years that she devoted to providing care for her husband following the debilitating stroke that he suffered in 1998.

Lucia was a guiding light of courage and a source of motivation for everyone who came into contact with her. In addition to her commitment to her family, she also touched the lives of her friends, members of the church, and even in the realm of politics, where she was actively involved at both the local and state levels.

However, she leaves behind an extraordinary legacy, despite the fact that her departure leaves a void. There are a large number of descendants that Lucia has nurtured, including 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The impact of Lucia is not only measured by her surviving children.

Edward, Robert, Thomas, and Jan, but also by the numerous descendants she produced. Her life will be celebrated at the upcoming funeral services that will be held at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. Pastor Thomas Winn and Dr. Cary Kimbrell will preside over all of the ceremonies.

Those who were chosen to serve as pallbearers are people who were very close to her, and they are a representation of the love and respect that she garnered from her community. For the purpose of commemorating the life of Lucia Jane Graves Winn, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Grace Baptist Church at Castlewoods Mission Fund.

These donations will be used to support causes that were near and dear to her heart, including the African Pastors Conferences and Mission Portugal. When her journey on earth comes to an end, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts and actions of those she touched. She will be remembered for all time for her unwavering faith, her resiliency, and her limitless love.
