Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale
The Couple
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale dated for six transcontinental-hopping years before Rossdale finally popped the question on New Year's Day 2002. On September 14th of that same year, modern music's most famous front-woman and her British beau exchanged vows during a traditional Anglican service at St. Paul's Covent Garden in London. The bride arrived an hour late for the ceremony, but for the groom she was well worth the wait. "God bless Gwen," Rossdale has said. "She has saved me in so many ways."
Father of the Bride
Stefani, with her father. Though best known for her belly-baring stage outfits, Stefani was transformed into a fairy princess in a custom-made pink-and-white silk faille Christian Dior gown-complete with an antique lace veil-designed by her friend, John Galliano. Her eight attendants wore bias-cut silk dresses from the Christian Dior Bridal Collection.
The Wedding Party
While Stefani walked on her father's arm, Rossdale chose as his escort his Hungarian sheepdog, Winston. Rossdale, whose mother is Scottish, donned a traditional British morning suit, while Winston was decked out in a garland of red flowers. "He had been such a defining force in my life amid the craziest times I've ever had," said Rossdale of his decision to include his beloved pooch in the wedding party." According to guest John Galliano, the feeling was mutual. "Gwen cried, Gavin cried, so did the dog!" the designer exclaimed.
The Color Palette
Stefani carried a delicate bouquet of phalaenopsis orchids and her grandmother's Catholic prayer book down the aisle. The fashion-forward singer, who has since also became a designer, wore a bright lipstick that echoed the magenta hue detailing the bottom of her hand-painted Dior by John Galliano gown. "We weren't together when Gwen went for shocking pink hair," Rossdale has said. "But when we met up, our hair clashed so badly!"
The Guest List
"The roses, the twinkling stars, the service, the choir-it was very romantic," Stefani's friend, John Galliano (right), has said of the couple's London wedding.
The Invite
Two weeks after their London nuptials, the couple took the plunge all over again, hosting a vow-renewal ceremony in L.A. for friends like Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller. Guests were instructed to "Dress Romantic" for the occasion, which was designed by planner, Mindy Weiss. The "I do's" were followed by dinner and dancing.
Second First Kiss
For the follow-up ceremony in Los Angeles, Stefani wore the same gown but switched up her accessories, choosing a Georgian pendant of pink tourmaline, peridot and diamonds from Neil Lane Jewelry. "It's one of those mad love affairs that you can't live with and you can't live without, and you just keep going and going," Stefani has said of the couple's ongoing love affair. "It's just this ongoing saga. I'm interested to see what's going to happen next."
